I gotta tell you: as someone that travels a lot, and gets DVDs from all over the place, the fact that DVDs that I PURCHASED for top $ in the U.S. don't work with my DVD player at home in Switzerland really ruffles my feathers. Instead, it displays a message of "Region Code Error". Now, if I try to play the DVD on my Apple Powerbook, I can switch the region code 4 times and after that it will only play EITHER EU or US DVDs. WTF????
Who the hell thinks up these kinds of things? Why would anyone want to buy DVDs? I, for one thing, am certainly a lost customer now. A good overview of this issue is here
