It's simple, really: Youtube has become the irrefutable embodiment of "Online Video", just like Google has become just another word for Search, and like Xerox was, for a long, simply a word for Copying. THAT is what matters to a mega brand like Google: now they have 2 household name brands under one roof, and no matter how the deals with the content owners end up, Youtube will always be synonymous with the best place to go for online video - espcially with those digital natives.
